The Polynesian islands are of volcanic origin, born from the bottom of the ocean they inhabit today.
They appeared 20 million years ago and are extremely young compared to our planet that is more than 4 billion years old.
Hardly had they emerged that some of those volcanoes subsided to leave place to atolls.
If the life span of our planet was reduced to one day of 24 hours, the Polynesian islands would only appear in the last seven minutes and settlement on the islands would only take place during the last five hundredth of second.
